Do you know where we are by chance?
Can you give a guess?
We went to The Alamo!
To see any picture a bit more clearly, just click onto it and it will become larger.
These were very large plaques on the ground and we were lucky to get these pictures because we didn't bring our wide angle lens, darn it.
There were volunteers who dressed up and told the historic stories of The Alamo.
This is the outdoor stage that was being set-up for additional programs during the day and we were not shy asking other couples to take our picture in exchange that we would take their pictures also.
The grounds are beautiful now, nothing like it was like during The Alamo Battle in 1836.
A gorgeous day spent together at The Alamo.
(I love this picture and the man in it!)
The picture was the only picture I was able to get fast because of the crowds that suddenly appeared. At least you can see "David Crockett" - Davy Crockett's name.
(Something for you to remember for another time that will be on a later posting of our trip.)
Visiting The Alamo during the day and nightlife in San Antonio - previous posting...
LET THERE BE LIGHT!
Are you ready?
We did the Festival of Flowers at night
aka
Battle of the Flowers
Since the parade will start in the evening hours and it was after our visit to The Alamo, we walked the parade route to see what was going on. The vendors were there selling their food and souvenirs. We saw this guy who was selling fun stuff, like the hat on his head. I asked if we could take his picture he agreed laughing and said absolutely.
Nice Guy!
Then we continued on our fun adventure and we saw these very colorful people and toys!
Oh the yellow outfits were matching and the printing said, "Drama Queen in Training", LOL!
People were lining up on the parade route for the evening parade and it was only lunch time. We decided to go find a little something to eat and we shared a delicious BBQ sandwich from one of the vendors. We also bought a great cup of fruit, yep, in a tall plastic cup. It was cold, fresh and yummy.
We saw the day parade (previous posting) and it was still way too early for the nighttime parade. We went strolling through the River Walk. They were having a crafts show all through the walking area by the river. We saw all types of crafts, handmade jewelry from rocks, stones, paper, rope - you name it it was there! We watch two artists making characters of people and that was a lot of fun. Not all of them even came close to what the people looked like in real person. Other types of art that we would not consider to be art. Bugs inclosed in clear acrylic, GROSS! Purses, wallets, watches, plants, jelly and jams and so much more. Very interesting but there was not one thing that we would consider to buy, LOL.
It was a beautiful warm day and we had the need for ice cream. We sought out a decent ice cream parlor and had our cool dessert.
Besides looking at my PC having his ice cream, look beyond him please.
We hope you see the bridge and people walking up the stairs to get to the parade route, yes? That is where we decided to go for the parade fun later this evening.
After ice cream, we continued our river walking to all of the interesting stores. When I entered, I found this clown. We got along immediately and had a great time together.
This guy used to be in his younger days, the World Champion Rodeo Clown, James Perry Jr., El Paso, Tx. The State of Texas also recognizes him as Admiral Texas, Commissioned by the Governor of Texas Rick Perry!
We also did some people-watching and this is something to share with you too. Remember the phrase at the parade, "Show us your Boots"?
You can see that these two young ladies were dressed up for the evening wearing their boots and bling for a night on the town! So many women, young ladies, girls and female children wear boots with short skirts and dresses. It is very common and accepted nicely.
We went to have dinner before the parade and after dessert. Had a nice Tex-Mex dinner on the riverfront. Then we went up that bridge we spoke about earlier to find a place for the nighttime parade.
This was the spot for us! The beautiful blue-eyed dog was so sweet and calm with all the people around her. She didn't even need a leash. She was also in the shade of the building with her owners so they were all very comfortable, obviously.
It is now sundown and the parade is about to start!
First to come up were the police, firemen and other officials of the city.
Next was the parade! We thought.
Look at all of the people waiting for hours!
While we were all waiting for the parade to start, people were entertaining everyone by going out into the street and dancing!
It was a wild and fun-loving crowd!
As the evening became darker and darker, the photographs were difficult to take but we were able to take some including some videos.
Motorcycle cops with lights and sirens and people cheering them on.
Okay, the rest of the pictures did not come out to clear but here are some fun videos!
Be patient for this one because the GOOD stuff comes a few more seconds after the video starts.
It was worth the few seconds; right? Also, this video is the longest one. The rest of the videos are short so you don't want to miss out and not watch them.
So come on back really soon, like tomorrow (hint hint).
