The weather has taken a change and to tell you the truth, all that work that PC and friends did pooped out everyone! So we (PC, really) took a deserving break from our septic tank saga.
This is what happened on June 15th, 2011.
Yes, that is a fire in Dammeron Valley on the East side of Hwy 18.
How about a "Zoom-In" picture?
You can see that it is windy too. IT is extremely windy and not helping the fire blow out!
Nope, it is making it bigger.
So big that our Dammeron Valley Fire made the Utah News from SLC all the way down to St. George, Ut.
In the local newspaper (The Spectrum) and the local television station run by Dixie College students and let us tell you, you can certainly tell it is run by kids not professionals, (Sun News).
The strange thing is that they named the fire Baker Dam and gave the coordinates of
16 miles north of St. George, south of Veyo.
(Hint - depending where you are at in St. George Proper, we Dammeron Valley could be 16 miles North of St. George!)
Hmmm, does that sound like it is Dammeron Valley?
No, because we are at mile marker 17 and 18 - that is from the 15 freeway marker on Bluff St./Hwy 18!
Yes, we are 3 miles south of Veyo.
Do you know where Baker Dam is yet?
The color country fire management representative named this fire "Baker Dam" because he said "Baker Dam" is a well-known landmark of Southern Utah and is known throughout the State of Utah. Dammeron Valley is NOT on the map!
Hmmm, really?
Again, do you know where Baker Dam is?
Let us tell you.
It approximately 4 miles North of Veyo and 2 miles South of Central (Brookside, Pine Valley area)
That makes Baker Dam close to 7+ miles from Dammeron Valley! There you go!!! Now on an ATV you could get to Baker Dam through the trails where that fire is but it you take Hwy 18, you must go to at least to Mile Markers 24-25 and then enter the road to Baker Dam which is another distance in - you Can't SEE Baker Dam from Hwy 18!
Well, we thought it was very funny and wanted to share the feeling of a Small Home Town Story with you!
Come back real soon y'all,'cause we have more to share!
