The elk decided to make their own hunting rules and they didn't share what the rules were with us at all. It was a bust for us. Therefore if we want to eat elk, we are going to have to go to the Gun Barrel Restaurant in our town.
Yet all of us had a great time being out in the woods riding our ATVs with the little bit of sunshine, lots of wind, some rain, a few hail storms, several snow storms with the hope to see an elk! The best part of this trip was sharing each others friendship and camping together!
This is our beautiful campsite that Joe saved for all of us when we arrived on October 1st.
Our elevation is 9500 feet above sea level.
Let's go for a ride and explore!
Now for some beautiful scenery pictures. We are in the vicinity (above) of Panguitch Lake, Utah.
Did you notice the white stuff on the ground?
With the light snow and the cold wind, we decided to go see Panguitch Lake and since we are not hunting for elk perhaps we will go fishing.
Check out those white caps! A surfer's dream on a lake????????????? No way are we going fishing!
The next day - did we say snow?
And now it is early afternoon!
Another day is just as cold as the previous days but that didn't stop us for going on a ride with smiles on our faces.
Beautiful day on a shady fallen leaves road with an ice cold blue sky.
Look closely. What do you see? A Doe with 4 fawns (babies). That is unusual to see four fawns with one doe we hope that there is another mom close by who is camera shy.
We were about 20 feet away from them. We were riding our ATV's and when we stopped to take the picture they just looked at us. So we started to speak with them. They were not afraid of us probably because they all know when Deer Season is scheduled and it wasn't at this time!
(it's a joke!)
What do you see, Joe?
Any elk?
I can hear the call of a bull but I don't see it or the herd.
What better way to stay warm? You got it. Cut more firewood. This is the first time that I've ever chopped wood. I did great and that is because I had the best teacher, my honey. This picture is the perfect shot that shows action, a fantastic split of wood by me!
Great timing on our part for cutting up the wood because this is what we woke up to the next day!
More snow!
Baby it's cold!
How about sharing our experience with us? Be sure to click onto the arrow to see and you just might feel our moment.
Lloyd made a quick (overnight) trip back home to pick up his lovely wife, Irene, to join the fun.
That's right. When Lloyd and Irene came back on Monday, they told us that Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday was the first of a really bad storm with 4 to 8 inches of snow expected.
We checked our trailer out and didn't think it was going to be the best idea for us to stay through Friday since our black tank was almost full (the bathroom, more specifically the toilet). We made the choice to leave on Wednesday before the storm arrived.
Heck, we been here now for 14 days and elk season was scheduled to end on Thursday. We had our fun so we left in mid-morning.
How about some dramatic pictures of the storm coming in while we are driving out?
By the way, there is NO color enhancement on these photographs. We were in the right place at the right time to pick up the very colorful sky and landscapes!
Next year we will be there with our friends again having fun together and perhaps we might see an elk or two.
Be sure to go to our photobucket to see additional pictures. The album is named "An October Camp Trip."
Thanks for visiting.
